Mel and Kathe arrive to this place they’ve been planning to have lunch in for the last week. Kathe made the reservation for a table for 2 at the plaza –a nice outdoor area— in the middle of a famous café district in town. The restaurants around share this open square as a common patio for customers that wish to enjoy an open-air meal. The traffic on the plaza is mostly pedestrian, cyclists and the occasional Vespa.

They engage in some small talk. Kathe complains about the clothes Mel is wearing; “sports tights” she called them, adding that she hardly ever dresses for the occasion. Mel defends her choices describing her style as comfortable and not “sport tights” but “training clothes”. She adds that she could never be moving around in dresses and high heels like Kathe.

In a blink of the eye Mel’s bag is snatched, and also whatever she was saying. Kathe yells out of surprise and panic. Everyone around as well, but Mel could see some actual hands and index fingers pointing to the same direction. She turned and saw the figure of a man on a ski mask, slipping through people, bicycles and to a narrow street.

Mel stands up and starts to run after the man. A free path through the crowd got opened behind him which she uses to follow. The street has lots of obstacles like cars, waste containers, benches and posts, but the man sorts all of them very quickly and keeps running. Mel is not far behind.

The chase continues to an open avenue full of traffic, people, fences, billboards, bushes and all sorts of street elements. The man evades several obstacles by hopping, skipping, flipping, sliding and running over them; not wasting a single motion, not slowing down a bit. He climbs over a wall with grace, jumps to a nearby building and lands rolling in the floor with skill and precision. He does the same a couple of times more in a 3 storey parking lot, down a bridge and to a boulevard and jumps over another wall. Then starts walking and taking some air.

Suddenly, with as much grace and style as him, Mel lands and rolls on the floor just behind the man. “You chose the wrong girl to rob today, pal.” The chase continues. He sprints, she follows close by. He leaps, she vaults. He climbs, she swings. Both showing great dexterity in navigating the urban spaces and elements without stopping.

He finally stumbles near a fountain and she tackles him down to the floor in anger. People around observe. They grapple for some time until he says “Mel, it’s me. Easy”. It was Leo, her boyfriend. She gets angrier and starts hitting him with her bag cursing many awful words after such a bad taste prank. She stands up totally decided to walk away in the worst of her moods. After she turns her back on him and starts walking, a chorus of WoW’s and Oh my God’s sung all around her. People’s faces were in total awe.

Leo was kneeling behind her with a ring box in hand. She drops the bag to the floor and brings her hands to her mouth with a “Oh my God… shit!” coming out, and also a “Wow, shit!” Kathe appears on the side street coming out of her car “You guys move faster every day. I hope your wedding’s on a boat in the middle of the sea. And if I’m not the maid of honour after this, Leo, you can all go to you parkour hell.”
